Henry Hartley

Veterinary Surgeon

Henry qualified at Onderstepoort in South Africa in the ’80s then did 2 years of National Service in Namibia and Kwazulu caring for livestock and pets in indigenous farming areas. After completing national service Henry worked in Namibia until moving to the UK with his family in 1990. He joined the practice in 1999 and enjoys all aspects of practice especially skin cases. Henry is married to Barbara and they have 3 sons and a menagerie of pets, including 5 cats and a very elderly tortoise.

Gareth Cross

Veterinary Surgeon

Gareth qualified from Liverpool in 1998 and went to work in mixed practice in North Devon for two years treating farm animals, horses and some zoo work. He then spent 6 months in India working at an animal welfare centre and travelling, and then did locum vet work for a few years after. At a large group practice in the Midlands he became lead vet and developed an interest in eyes. He moved back to Devon in 2003 and joined Witten Lodge, becoming a partner in 2010. Around the same time gained his certificate in Veterinary Ophthalmology and started the eye referral service. Together with Henry they built the new practice which opened in 2016. Gareth also has an interest in tortoise care and medicine. In his spare time he enjoys outdoor sports including long distance running and surf kayaking.

Carrie Cross

I grew up in Devon and Cornwall and always wanted to be a vet. I graduated from Liverpool University in 1998. I met Gareth my husband at university and we both worked in mixed practice for the first 2 years after qualifying. We then worked in India for 6 months mostly neutering and rabies vaccinating dogs. The following few years we locumed at a busy first opinion small animal practice in the Midlands interspersed with travelling. I always wanted to get back to the South West and the sea, and we moved to North Devon in 2003. We have 3 teenage children, 2 dogs, a cat, 2 tortoises and a chicken. My interests at work, as well as routine surgery, are in behaviour and chronic pain and am able to offer acupuncture and pain clinics. Outside of work and the family I am a member of Appledore Pilot Gig rowing club. To keep sane I enjoy cold water swimming all year round and practice yoga. I run to keep fit and enjoy taking our dogs on long walks in beautiful North Devon.

Katherine Garside

I qualified from Edinburgh University in 2003 and started off my veterinary career in mixed practice in mid Devon. After a couple of years I realised that small animal practice was where I wanted to be and jointed Witten Park in 2005. I have remained a general practitioner with an interest in internal medicine. Out of work I enjoy walking my dog.

Jenny Geen

Veterinary Surgeon

Jenny lives on the edge of Exmoor with her family and their menagerie of animals. She has worked in North Devon since graduating and has a long standing interest in veterinary ophthalmology. She joined Witten Park in 2018 and works with Gareth in the Atlantic Eye Clinic at Medivet Northam. She attained the ESVPS Certificate in Veterinary Ophthalmology in 2016 and the BSAVA Post Graduate Certificate in Ophthalmology in 2021, and is an Advanced Practitioner in Veterinary Ophthalmology.

Amanda Brown

Branch Partner and Veterinary Surgeon

Amanda qualified from Liverpool University in 2001. She moved to North Devon in 2004 and now enjoys all the wonderful things the outdoors has to offer here with her two children and three Whippets. Amanda developed an interest in soft tissue surgery and orthopaedics and was awarded the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2009. Surgery now fills most of her time and she has a wide range of experience in this area.

Ashley Bradford

Ashley moved from America to the UK in 2011 to study veterinary medicine at the University of Glasgow. After qualifying in 2016, she worked in small animal practice in the Midlands before joining our team in spring of 2021. She is passionate about general practice, but particularly eyes! She is working towards her ophthalmology certificate which she started in 2022. She has 2 dogs and a cat at home that provide plenty of entertainment! In her spare time, Ashley enjoys coastal walks in beautiful North Devon with her wife and 2 Golden retrievers.

Eleanor Hughes

Veterinary Surgeon

Eleanor spent many years working with DNA in University and Hospital labs before heading to Dublin to study Veterinary Medicine. Her first vet job was in a mixed practice in West Wales and then she returned to Devon to work with companion animals. She completed her GPCerts in Feline Practice and in Dermatology in 2013 and 2017. In 2019 she completed her PgC in Small Animal Dermatology and was awarded Advanced Practitioner status in Small Animal Dermatology in 2021. She enjoys the thrill of calming itchy skin and ears (the smellier the better)! Out of work, she plays Tenor Horn in a Silver Band and has 2 cats.

Katie Locke

Katie qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2006 and has worked in the South West since then, joining Witten Park in 2020. She loves the variety of small animal practice and has an interest in ultrasound and medical cases. Time away from work is spent exploring the beautiful beaches and countryside of north Devon with her family and 2 dogs.

Stephanie Randleson

I graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2016 and started my veterinary career in a large small animal hospital based in South Devon, before moving back to North Devon to join the team at Witten Park in 2018. I enjoy all aspects of general practice. Out of work I enjoy exploring North Devon walking my two spaniels.

Freya Brookes

Veterinary Surgeon

Freya qualified in 2017 from Nottingham Vet School initially working in mixed practice for a couple of years then the PDSA in the midlands. She moved to North Devon in 2021 and joined us in 2023 she particularly enjoys surgery and dentistry. Outside of work she enjoys running with her dog, sea kayaking, surfing and exploring the moors.

I have been a vet nurse for over 20 years. The majority of which was in an orthopaedic referral practice. Originally from Nottinghamshire I moved to North Devon in 2018 with my husband, daughter, dog and cat. Outside of work I love travelling, winter sports and beach walks.

I qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2012. I particularly enjoy pet weight clinics and working closely with clients and their pets to achieve pet weight goals. I have a crazy spaniel and guinea pigs.

I have been nursing since 2001 which involved farm, equine, small animal and some exotic species work, in first opinion and referral practices. I moved to North Devon from The Royal Forest of Dean to be closer to the Sea but still be near the countryside where i can enjoy horse riding, walking the dog and watching wildlife. My current aspirations in work are to increase my nurse clinic knowledge further to help clients with their pets.

I grew up in a house full of animals including ferrets, birds of prey, tarantulas, dogs, guinea pigs and rabbits. I have spent many summers rearing baby birds ranging from jackdaws, to owls and eagles. I have always wanted to be a vet nurse and started working at Witten park 8 years ago, qualifying as a veterinary nurse in 2022. In my spare time I like nothing more than to be up on the moors with my dogs.

I qualified in 2021 after working at the practice since 2012. I have a keen interest in anaesthesia, lab work and dermatology. My hobbies include playing football, kickboxing and looking after our menagerie of pets which includes a cat, python, rats, tortoises and guinea pigs!

Sarah originally started at the branch on reception over 4 years ago. She has since moved over to the nursing team and is now a Patient Care Assistant with us. Sarah enjoys all aspects of working within a Veterinary Practice. She has a particular interest in small furries and rescues and rehabilitates Guinea Pigs. She also has 3 lovely dogs to care for too.

Lis has a passion for animal behaviour and making sure the experience of pets in the Veterinary Clinic is as stress free as possible. Liz has a wealth of experience in this field and is happy to work with clients and their pets to help with behaviour and training. Outside of work Lis helps with rescue charities and also loves to spend time with her own tribe of rescue dogs.

Hi, my name is Megan. I have been working at Medivet Northam for 2 years now, starting off as a CCA and leading onto a PCA. I am beginning my veterinary nursing apprenticeship to become a qualified veterinary nurse. I have an amazing cat called Simba who loves hugs and have got a foundation degree in Animal Science. Outside of work I enjoy watching football as well as online gaming. I spend alot of time with my boyfriend as well as my cat who loves the attention.

I have always wanted to be a veterinary nurse for as long as I can remember and enjoy working in all areas of veterinary practice having qualified in 2022 after working with both small animals and farm and equine. Outside of work I love going for coastal walks with my two terriers, riding my horse, paddle boarding and spending time with friends and family and my cat!

Teresa has worked at the branch for over 18 years. You may see her on reception but most of her time is now spent in the office doing the insurance claims and the health plan admin. Outside of work Teresa enjoys keeping active with running, going on walks with her children and having holidays in the sun.

We moved to Devon in 2016 and I can honestly say it is the best thing we have ever done. The countryside is amazing and the people are lovely. I am new to the Veterinary world having spent most of my working life in the Telecommunications industry and working for large corporates. So working at Medivet has been a welcomed change and seeing all the lovely pets coming into the practice is wonderful. Outside of work I have a beautiful American Quarter Horse mare, so I ride Western and English. I also have a large and hairy GSD doggie and a very cheeky/naughty Cairn Terrier. I do also have a hubby who has the patience of a saint!
