Meet our Partner, Paul Milnthorpe
After finishing a degree in Pathology & Microbiology I studied Veterinary Science at the University of Bristol, qualifying in 2007. I spent five years in North Wales in a mixed practice before switching to small animal locum work in Cheshire and Wrexham. My main interests are canine internal medicine and soft tissue surgery. I live in Shropshire with my partner, two children and two Guinea Pigs called Nibbles and Ronnie. I spend a lot of my free time slowly renovating our house or walking/running in the Shropshire countryside. I have completed several long-distance endurance events most notably rowing the Atlantic in 2010.

I was bringing my 2.5 month puppy Great Dane for his 2nd vaccine. He is a big, heavy puppy, and I am a big, strong man, but I had a nervous, shaking puppy that I was trying to get through the front door. The surgery was empty. The receptionist saw me squatting down to try to open the handle to the door, but no assistance was offered! When I got in and saw the vet, I was disappointed with the reception. He checked his teeth, and testicles, that was it. I thought a heart check would be have administered. I thought a weigh in would have been done, but no. I had quite a few questions to ask the staff, but sweating and struggling to get through doors, put my mind right off track. I was literally dripping in sweat, and I'm a very fit boxing coach! Just before I paid for the vaccine, the receptionist asked me if the vet had weighed him. I replied very disconsolatedly, that no offer was given to me. I wasn't asked if I had any worries about my pet, if I wanted any advice on anything. All I got was if I wanted to take out a health plan!!!!! The vet premises is rather dark and uninviting, really quite depressing. I left the vet and signed up to another immediately after I left this vet. The new vet surgery I have joined, is very bright, airy, and so inviting. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and chatty with me. They told me a heart check WOULD have been done. A very thorough body check would have been done. I WOULD have been asked if I had any worries, and no health plan would have been offered, as they don't believe in them! Vets, and ancillary staff should be actively, and openly enthusiastic about their jobs. The difference between the two surgeries in this respect was extremely stark.

I usually use the Stoke branch and I love them so much you'd have to drag me off their client list kicking and screaming. I had to use the Newcastle-under-Lyme branch for an emergency appointment. The appointment didn't have a happy ending and the staff were so so kind, compassionate, patient. It entirely feels like they're there for the health and happiness of our pets (unlike some local vets that feel more like a business), and its so comforting to know its not branch specific. There's no other place I'd rather share the highs and lows of pet companionship with.

I was so relieved to be able to get a same-day appointment when my poorly kitty, Suki, needed to see the vet. She had a thorough examination and was given an anti-inflammatory injection. Unfortunately, there was no improvement, so I returned the following day. Suki was given another thorough examination and had blood tests carried out. The vet, Paul, kindly rang me with the results and explained everything to me. Thankfully, Suki appeared to perk up in the late afternoon and managed to eat something. I’m monitoring her closely over the weekend, but we have a further plan of action in place should she deteriorate in the meantime. I can’t thank Paul and the reception staff enough for arranging same-day appointments on both occasions and, most importantly, for the care and attention Suki received. I’m incredibly grateful — thank you all so much. ❤️🐾

Just visited my dog Blue’s 6 monthly check up, we have with the plan. He’s a very nervous dog but he loves the vet, they make him feel happy and safe when visiting, he even cracks a smile and waggles his tails. Thank you for the patience with him and making me feel I’m not doing anything wrong.

Took my shi tzu for tiny lumps on his body, told it was hives. It took 4 minutes to diagnose, 4 tablets, take half a tablet twice daily. £73. Disgusting price
