Partner and Veterinary Surgeon

I graduated as a vet from Porto University in 2016, alongside classmates Gus and Thora. Being forced by the later to live in the UK, I quickly discovered an untapped aptitude for my role as a veterinary surgeon. I am passionate about helping our patients and their carers to live their best lives, whenever possible. I have a keen interest in orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery. You’ll often hear me complaining about British weather, some of my hobbies are formula one driving, motorcycling and bodyboarding.

I grew up in Figueira da Foz a seaside city in the sunny centre of Portugal and spent half of my childhood in my granny's farm with all the animals and the other half trekking and sailing with the Scouts. I graduated as a Veterinary Surgeon from Porto University in 2015 and worked there for a few years. I came over to the UK in 2018 and begun working in Medivet, since 2019 I have proudly been a permanent vet at lovely Great Denham! My main clinical interests revolve around internal medicine and soft tissue surgery, and I am currently working on solidifying my knowledge on abdominal ultrasound imaging and expanding into laparoscopic surgery. Outside of work I like to travel as much as possible and spend quality time with friends and family. I'm also an avid gamer and computer enthusiast. I sadly do not have any pets to call my own, but I do like to consider all my patients a bit like my adopted furry children!

I graduated as a vet from Porto University in 2015 and knew from a young age that I wanted to live in the UK. I've always been captivated by the country’s scenery and respect for nature, but above all, for their genuine love of animals. I'm a dog lover and also a cat-mom to Sam and Cuba. I have a keen interest in animal behaviour, soft tissue surgery and clinical pathology. Some of my favourite hobbies are photography, hiking and crafting.

Over approx 8 years, this surgery has got worse and worse and worse. From day one, the vet Jorge placed a lot of pressure on us to have our dogs genitalia mutilated, with the justification that it would help calm the dog down... I didn't see an issue with my pets temperament. He had called me on the phone to discuss this also. Why would I mess around with the organ that NATURALLY regulates his hormones? How cruel. This was my first indication that Medivet was a money operation. Having any dog snipped at a young age seriously interferes with their development, physically and mentally. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to look into the extensive studies on this! With this, a dog will have a troubled health throughout its life... and thus, more visits to the vet. There's the money maker. Over time, I came to realise that the staff would play on pet owners' emotions. I'd waited in their waiting room and listened to conversations with other pet owners and heard things like, "we need to think about what's best for the pet" when in reality they mean "we need to get that insurance money" On one occasion, I had to leave my pet in medivets care for three days and WOW when I saw the condition of how they kept my pet!?!?!? I was mortified. Absolutely horrible, zero care. Their insecurity and lack of confident staff resulted in my pet being muzzled everytime he was left in Medivet care. It is disgusting. My pet had hot spots on a couple of occasions and medivet bedford had to put my pet to sleep to shave the area.... On one occasion I took my pet to Watford and saw a Dutch vet... who was superb. He said as long as I can hold my pet, we don't need to spend money on putting the animal under.... and guess what, we got the job done without forking out on a massive bill, which we probably would have done in Bedford. That vet was confident. Can't say the same for Bedfords vets. On another occasion, medivet mafe a mistake regarding thr outstanding payment and I received a call from Gabrielle, obnoxious as they come. Toward the end of the phone conversation all she kept repeating was "so how would you like to pay, so how would you like to pay? " and not accepting that theyve made a miatake. I later complained and of course it was found they made a mistake. However I still received a snotty email from the vet. If you ever have to deal with Gus and you own a large breed, just leave. He is petrified of anything bigger than a football.... but he's a really good salesman. Will sell you a massive list of work needing to be done and will follow up with a shoddy email trying to sell more drugs. You can see in one of my attached pictures, out dog left in medivet care, cone on, unable to get to his food. This is "care". The other photo of the letter was placed in front of my by Gus.... when I said I'm not signing this, he replied oh sorry I haven't read what I printed for you to sign...?!?!?! Are you braindead or just playing stupid? That letter was placed under my nose at 6:30pm. I could really go on and on and on about how atrocious this practice is. But there's no point. In summary: if you can deal with your pets issues elsewhere, do so. Vets just want your money... Especially Medivet Great Denham

Our cat Heidi was recently brought into Medivet in a critical condition. The timing couldn’t have been worse as I was just on my way to airport when I received the call. Unfortunately Heidi was so unwell that we had to let her go. I just wanted to leave this review to say how amazingly well the Medivet staff handled the whole situation. Specifically Jorge who dealt directly with me and my wife was so kind. It was such a hard situation but we feel that the service we received was exceptional. Thank you for making an awful situation much more bearable.

Jorge, Gus and all the team are brilliant. They have been so kind to my dog all through her life and seemed genuinely upset when we had to put her to sleep yesterday. Thank you to you all.

The reception took a payment on my credit card which I said had gone through but she said no it hasnt as she didnt put paper in the machine!! I gave another payment again and she said it would be refunded immediately if it was taken twice. I am still fighting several days later to be told lie after lie about when I am going to get my refund. Its illegal practice and every excuse in the book when they wont return it but still nothing. I also have the pet plan with them and I wasnt given any discount on my invoice. Shame the vet is great but the admin team is disgusting. I am now contacting my credit card to have the payment refunded.
