Sian Humphries

Branch Partner and Veterinary Surgeon

Ever since I graduated from Cambridge University twelve years ago, I have spent my time being a proud small animal vet. Dogs, cats, rabbits and hamsters alike, I'm happy to help any and all creatures great and small. The past few years I have dedicated my time to cats and am now a feline medicine certificate holder. I'm passionate about British wildlife and love nothing more than to turn my skills to an injured wild animal. More recently, I have been performing acupuncture treatments with great success, and will be leading the Beaminster team in Veterinary physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and rehabilitation medicine. My own pets, Felicity the cat and Spud the dog, keep me busy. My biggest hobby is swimming, mainly pool based as I love amateur level racing competitions. I do also climb regularly, and I'm very excited about the crags that the Southwest has to offer.

Having decided on broader horizons, Pedro moved to the UK in 2022 to join the Medivet Group and the wonderful Beaminster team, focusing solely on small animal practice. Some of his favourite activities are reading, martial arts and party games. Besides his family, he also has two beautiful cats, two lovely turtles and a bruised-up motorcycle back in Portugal! He is also currently learning German and would welcome anyone to speak it with!

  • Your vet in Beaminster

We are a warm, caring community practice based in Beaminster. We proudly offer a full range of veterinary services and excellent facilities.

Our facilities are all run by a team of highly qualified professionals dedicated to delivering exceptional patient and client care. We look forward to welcoming you and your pet.

  • Veterinary Physiotherapy

Veterinary physiotherapy is hugely important for regaining strength after surgeries, and restoring flexibility to joints in chronic diseases such as arthritis.  It incorporates pain relief techniques, helping to reduce our reliance on drugs..  All treatments are individualised but may contain thermotherapy, cryotherapy, massage, acupuncture, TENS, pulsed electromagnetic field device (PEMF), passive and active therapeutic exercises.

  • Dental X-ray

Only by x-raying a tooth can you fully understand it.  Problems below the gum line can easily otherwise missed, and possible complications arising from extractions can be prevented with knowledge of the full picture.

Very nice practice, very nice vet team, however due to unforeseen difficulties with our dog, which resulted in lots of pain, bleeding & eventually another emergency vet followed by an out of county referral to a wound specialist. Over the last 3 weeks. Costing us so much more than our own insurance limit. He is still not out of the woods yet. Despite one of the team not being too concerned about our dog’s condition when his lower front legs began to swell & his abdomen began to show signs of what turned into necrosis of his skin, one week after initial unprecedented dog bite. We are optimistic.

We first made a phone call to medivet out of hours service after our pet started her labour this at 3.55pm and was told to phone them every couple of hours by 6.30pm we were really concerned about our little lady and the amount of straining she was doing we rang medivet and explained our concerns and also that we are both disabled our pet got pregnant by accident due us being away and our son looking after our pet and we needed to be in a payment plan so they said we should go in urgently and the night staff will be there for us so we got to the medivet at Dorchester to be welcomed by a vet with a nasty attitude as soon as we walked through the door he took a look at our pet and told us that the pups she had in her stomach were far too big for her to pass so she would need surgery at the cost of £1800 and they couldn't proceed until we paid the full amount we told the vet the pregnancy wasn't planned and he called us a liar and said you must have know she had been caught and if we couldn't pay the bill in full that he should put her to sleep because if we take her else where she would be dead by the morning he then went off and said he spoke to the practice manager and they told us to apply for a loan during which time my pet was still straining trying to give birth we were turned down for the loan because we are both disabled after another half an hour passes and the vet talking to the practice manager again we paid him all we had which was £300 he then took our pet to operate on this is now nearly 2hrs after arriving at the vets he then told us we could collect our dog and leave the pups until the balance was paid we agreed just so she could come home we recieve a phone call to say the operation went well and she could be picked up in a couple of hours but we would need to pay more off the bill so we had to ring around late at night family and friends to find some money 2 hours later we get a phone call to say she was bleeding internally and they would operate again we recieve another phone call and the vet said I've done what I can and he would ring if anything changed an hour later he rang to say she had passed away my heart broke and I dropped my phone he then rings me back and asks why did I put the phone down and asks when can I come and collect the pups and pay the bill my reply to him then was i will pick the pups up in the morning i called into the vets and was asked by the day staff would i like to clear the bill my reply was no I'm here to collect my dog and the pups the day staff were brilliant the night staff horrible we believe we lost our dog through negligent vet and lack of help from the practice manager if she was operated on sooner i think we might still have her here now instead of 3 orphaned pups I'm writing this review with a broken heart hoping anyone else that ends up in a situation like ours will be able to go elsewhere for the health of your pet.

Has excellent facilities for disabled and those in wheelchair Staff are All knowledgeable and polite Excellent level of care for pets and owners alike Team given equal reassurance to owners, Wouldn't take my pet to anywhere else However since being taken over by medivet the "family" feel has gone, now it's very much like a business. While l had the safe knowledge that my animal was insured so didn't have to worry so much about cost as this could claim direct from insurance now l need to find cost first then claim off insurance

New beginnings at Honeysuckle Practice. We’ve been going for years & now with new administration it has been turned around. Friendly and efficient team with very proficient vets; sensitive & thorough especially Pedro who has treated my dachshund. Outstanding consultation & diagnosis. Cost of treatment with meds, very reasonable. I have signed up for the Medivet Health care plan. Extremely worthwhile.
